Albert B. Sousa

Captain Albert B. Sousa, age 87 of 59 Opechee Drive, Bristol, died Monday, July 4, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Nilza F. 'Flavia' (Flavio) Sousa and the late Constance L. (Letizia) Sousa who preceded him in death in 1994. Born and raised in Warren, he was a son of the late Manuel B. and Maria (Borges) Souza. Capt. Sousa served in the US Army during WWII. He was the Captain of the Prudence Island Ferry 'Prudence II' for many years, retiring a number of years ago. He previously worked for the Bristol Highway Department as a heavy machinery mechanic and was a welder for the Blount Marine Company in Warren and also the Skipper of 'The Eaglet' the Sword Fishing Boat for Luther Blount. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a former member of the Hydraulion Engine & Hose Co. No. 1 of the Bristol Fire Dept. and a former member of the Bristol County Lodge of Elks. He is survived in addition to his wife by two sons, Alan A. Sousa and his wife Daryl D. of Bristol, Bert Sousa and his wife Beverly of Bath, NH, a daughter, Joycelyn DeCosta and her husband Anthony of Rumford, two step children, Evanilza Flavio DaSilva and Rosana Flavio DaSilva both of Bristol, two brothers, Joseph J., and David B. Sousa, both of Warren, two sisters, Florence A. Roderick of Oviedo, Florida and Edawese V. Sousa of Warren, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In addition to his first wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph B., Manuel B. and Antone B. Souza and a sister, Alice Kallstrom. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral services Friday, July 8, 2011 at 9:00 AM in the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. Visiting hours Thursday, July 7 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
