Mrs Mary I. Alves

Mrs. Mary I. (Duarte) Alves, age 70 of 8 Mason Avenue, Bristol, died Friday, November 12, 2010 at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA. She was the wife of Manuel L. Alves, III for 50 years. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Raposa) Duarte. She worked for Dixon-Furon Corp in Bristol for many years, retiring a number of years ago. She had previously worked at the former Sunset Bakery on Hope St., Bristol. Mary was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, she loved to cook, knit, crochet and making knit caps for the newborns at Women and Infants Hospital. She was very active at the Benjamin Church Senior Center in Bristol. In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children, Manuel L. Alves, IV and his wife Elsie of Bristol, Kevin A. Alves of Murrieta, CA, Lori A. Thibeault and her husband Ray of Portsmouth and Brian W. Alves and his wife Angela of Worcester, MA, seven grandchildren, Joshua Alves and his wife Amy, Rebekah Alves, Jacob Alves and his wife Jenn, Jeremiah Alves, Anthony Alves, Evan Thibeault and Samuel Alves and three great grandchildren, Lilly, Haley and Gabriel Alves. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-laws, Ralph and Elaine Ferrara and David and Josephine Alves, all of Bristol and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 10:00 AM in St. Elizabeth's Church, 577 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial will be private. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, November 17, 2010 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM in the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol.
