Mr. Harold Cardoza, age 92, of 180 Franklin St., and formerly of Goulart Avenue, Bristol died Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Theresa (Vaccaro) Cardoza. Born in Lisbon, Portugal and a Bristol resident for most of his life, he was a son of the late John and Mary (Silvester) Cardoza. He was a Purple Heart Veteran of WWII proudly serving in the US Marine Corps as a Corporal with the 4th Marine Division 'G' Company 23rd Regiment in the Pacific Theatre with action in Kwajalein Atoll and Saipan. He worked in maintenance department of Carr Fulflex Corp and formerly with the US Rubber Company for over 40 years, retiring in 1981. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Bristol, he was a member of the 4th Marine Division Association Reunion Group and a member of the Disabled American Veterans Group. He loved playing Cribbage, cards, bowling in his younger days, walking, swimming, and spending time doing puzzles. He is survived by a son, Harold V. Cardoza and his wife Kathy of Tiverton, a daughter, Jennie A. Strand and her husband Bill of Norwich, CT, a daughter-in-law, Joan Cardoza and a sister, Mary Fusco both of Charlottesville, VA, six grandchildren, Keith M. Cardoza and his wife Kathleen, Nina M. Cardoza and her husband John Krowas, Dr. Jennifer Cardoza, Andrew Cardoza and his wife Jessica, Eric and Christopher Strand and five great grandchildren, Harrison Krowas, Colleen, Michael, Jory and Marco Cardoza. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Russell J. Cardoza, two brothers, Edmund and Antonio Cardoza, and four sisters, Deolinda Furtado, Fernanda Vento, Pauline Hopper and Adeline Nunes. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Monday, October 17, 2011 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours Sunday, October 16, 2011 from 4:00-7:00 PM.
