Mrs. Sylvia S. (DeTora) DePasquale, age 92, of Wood Street, Bristol, died, Monday, November 13, 2017 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. She was the wife of the late Stephen S. DePasquale, her husband of 54 years, who preceded her in death in May of 2007. Born in Tiano-Caianello, Naples, Italy, a daughter of the late Antonio and Ermelinda (Izzo) DeTora. Sylvia received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the L’Universita di Napoli and taught school in Italy for 8 years, before leaving to move to the United States and to Bristol, where she lived most of her life. Once in Bristol she worked at the RI Veterans Home as a caregiver and then started her 33 year career at the former Premier Thread Company in Bristol retiring in 1995 as a supervisor. While there she worked part time as a cook for the Columban Fathers and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, along with raising her family. Sylvia was an active communicant at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, where she was a faithful observer of the Catholic Faith and for over 50 years was a daily communicant. She was a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society, the Rosary and Altar Society, a 16th of July Feast and Bazaar Volunteer for many years, a member of the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary and a volunteer for the Missionary Servants of Holy Love. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great granddaughter and enjoyed cooking, knitting, sewing, and shopping. She is survived by five children; Stephen A. DePasquale (Sharon) of Johnston, Mary Ann Panzarella of Bristol, James L. DePasquale of Barrington, Linda A. Dean (Mark) and Jeffrey K. DePasquale, both of Bristol, eight grandchildren; Regina Rose DePasquale, Domenick M. Panzarella, Stephanie St. Amour (Timothy), Stephen J. and Felicia M. DePasquale, Olivia A. and Colt S. Dean and James L. DePasquale, Jr., a great granddaughter, Isabella Rose, and Sylvia was the 5th child of 13, leaving behind siblings, Peppino DeTora of Caianello, Italy, Lena Martellini of Detroit, MI and Sig DeTora of Pearl River, NY. Funeral Services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Monday, November 20, 2017 at 10:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol. Entombment will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. Visitation will be Monday morning only from 9:00-10:00 AM.
