Mr. Sidney F. Cochrane, age 98 formerly of Burton Street, Bristol, died Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the RI Veterans Home, Bristol. He was the husband of the late Audrey (Baker) Cochrane, who preceded him in death in 1995. Born in Joes, Colorado and a resident of Bristol since 1945, he was a son of the late George and Ella (Orfield) Cochrane. Sidney was a Purple Heart WWII Army veteran, a Sergeant, he served in the European African Middle Eastern Theatre receiving the campaign ribbon with two bronze stars and the American Defense Service ribbon with a bronze star. Sidney was a Motor Repairman for the Westinghouse Corporation in their Springfield, MA, Providence, RI and Boston, MA locations for 25 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Bristol, a member of the Cup Defenders Association and the national Veterans of Foreign Wars organization. He enjoyed summering on Hog Island, spending time boating and quahogging. He is survived by two sons, Leigh F. Cochrane (Karin) of North Wales, PA, and Paul F. Cochrane (Patricia) of North Attleboro, MA and six grandchildren; Laura Barlow, Christopher Cochrane, Melissa Zechello (Brian), Matthew Cochrane (Samantha), Jessica Martinez Collis (Andrew) and Gary Martinez (Allison) and eight great grandchildren; Brooke, Juliana, Cooper, Luke, Madison, Ryan, Will and Harper. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Diantha H. Cochrane and a sister, Lottie Wajda. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol Friday, March 17, 2017 at 9 AM with a Funeral Service at 10AM in the First Congregational Church of Bristol, High Street. Burial with Military Honors will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. Visiting hours Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 5-7 PM.
